Four varieties of wool, viz. Chokla, Rambouillet, Ramb. × Chokla (50%) white, and Ramb. × Chokla (50%)canary coloured, were subjected to chemical treatment under different conditions with two oxidizing agents (hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid) and two reducing agents (thioglycollic acid and sodium metabisulphite). The deterioration in strength and the chemical damage of wools are maximum in the case of samples treated with thioglycollic acid and peracetic acid. Chokla wool could withstand chemical attack of greater severity as compared to Rambouillet and other crossbred wools without serious impairment in strength.en_US
