| Abstract: | The X-ray diffraction patterns of natural and chemically modified wools of different varieties have been investigated. With chemical treatment, the degree of orientation decreases, whereas the average crystallite size increases. Scanning electron microscopic studies reveal that at the normal level of treatment there is little damage to the surface topography of wool fibres but at higher levels of treatment the surface is badly damaged. |
