| Abstract: | The thermal behaviour of natural and chemically modified fibres (treated with thioglycollic acid and hydrogen peroxide) of native exotic and crossbred wool samples was studied in nitrogen at a heating rate of 10ᵒC/min using a thermogravimetric analyzer. The thermograms show three distinct regions of weight loss in all cases. A comparison of the temperatures for different percentage decompositions reveals that the thermal stability decreases significantly after chemical treatment with thioglycollic acid. The effect of chemical treatments on the thermal stability of Chokla wool is not as significant as in the case of Rambouillet and crossbred wools. The thermal stability has also been computed from the primary thermograms by calculating the integral procedural decomposition temperature. The results show the thermal stability to be in the order: Rambouillet > Ramb. × Chokla (50%) canary coloured > Ramb. × Chokla (50%) white > Chokla wool. |
