Abstract: The air-vortex-spun yarn has very low strength because most of its fibres slip rather than rupture during a tensile test. It has been found that doubling-twisting improves substantially the tenacity of the yarn by increasing the inter-fibre cohesion due to a sizable increase in the packing coefficient of the yarn.
