Plastic grade nylon-6 granules were compounded with 6 mm long chopped glass fibre strands on an extruder and the reinforced pellets obtained were injection-moulded into test specimen. With the incorporation of 30% by weight of glass fibre, the tensile strength improves by a factor of more than 2 and the tensile modulus by a factor close to 3; the heat distortion temperature also shows a three-fold increase. The elongation-at-break is reduced considerably and the shrinkage in the mould is also reduced. Thus, the composite has the properties of a good engineering plastic.en_US
