| dc.description.abstract | High density polyethylene filaments having different degrees of orientation and structures were prepared by heat-setting cold-drawn (drawn at 80°C) filaments. On the basis of the results of structural and mechanical studies conducted on these filaments, an attempt bas been made to correlate the measured values of the Young's moduli with structural parameters. It has been found that using a simplified one-phase model, the Young's modulus of the cold-drawn filaments can be related approximately to molecular and to a reasonable extent to crystallite orientation. Young's moduli of the filaments heat-set subsequent to cold-drawing do not show such a correlation. The possible reasons for these differences are discussed. | en_US |
