Abstract: The effect of thermal exposure on cationic dyed nylon filaments and filaments modified by blocking the amino groups has been investigated. The presence of cationic dyestuff has been found to confer some protection on nylon against fibre degradation. When amino groups in nylon are blocked prior to dyeing, the extent of protection afforded to fibre degradation is higher. Prior blocking of amino groups was also observed to retard the thermal fading of cationic dyes.
