Doubling tension has been found to be an important factor affecting the strength and elongation of doubled voile yarns under mill conditions. Higher doubling tensions were obtained on regular doublers than on converted doublers and higher strength, lower elongation and reduced contraction were, therefore, found on the former. Higher tension contributes to better binding of the component threads, which helps to improve the mutual assistance provided by the component threads during loading and contributes to higher strength. Doubling tension could be improved to get higher strength on converted frames by replacing the worn out rings and by increasing the balloon height.en_US
