The possibility of modifying locally the dyeing properties of polyamide fabrics by a print-fix process has been investigated. The conditions of preparation and the use of suitable buffers for effecting storage stability of a reactive compound CS have been standardized. After printing and fixation under different conditions the printed portions were analyzed for effective reductions in end amino groups. Steam fixation was found to give the desired extent of blocking (50-60 %) in a short time without affecting the feel of the fabric. The printed portions exhibit a higher dye uptake for cationic dyes than the unprinted ground and reduced uptake for acid dyes, metal-complex dyes as well as reactive. The printing, however, causes no change in the uptake of dispersed yes. By a suitable combination of dyes dyeing conditions and auxiliary addition, interesting reserve tone in tone, two colour as well as three colour effects can be obtained.en_US
