A number of azo dyes derived from 5-aminoquinoline have been prepared and tried as disperse dyes for nylon. Their dyeing properties have been compared with those of their analogues derived from 6-aminoquinoline. The UV, visible and IR spectral data for the various compounds are given. A correlation between light fastness and absorption spectra is attempted, and it is shown that the π - π* electronic energy is an important parameter determining the stability of the systems investigated.en_US
