Abstract: The results of a study on the irregularity of combed yarns are presented. The data gathered on six cottons, each spun to different counts of both carded and combed yams at two levels of waste extraction, show that the equation developed earlier (Ratnam, T. V. et al., J. Text. Inst. 65 (1974), 61] for carded counts relating yarn unevenness with fibre properties and roving unevenness holds good for combed counts also. The added irregularity at the ring frame of the combed yarn is shown to be largely influenced by the improvement in fibre properties due to combing. The practical significance of the irregularity expression is discussed.
