dc.description.abstractThe results of a 5 year (1968-72) fibre quality survey work on commercial grades of white jute, tossa jute and mesta from different jute growing districts in India are discussed. State-wise, (i) Orissa ranks highest in white jute followed by Assam, West Bengal and Tripura, (ii) Tripura and Assam produce tossa jute with the best fibre characters, Orissa and West Bengal next, (iii) in mesta , West Bengal ranks highest among the states covered, except Madhya Pradesh. Areas producing low quality jute have been identified for launching of quality improvement programmes.en_US
