Abstract: When cotton fabrics are resin finished to impart desirable wash and wear properties, there is a significant reduction in their wear life. In a recent study [Dweltz, N. E. & Mehta, H. U., Colourage, (1971), 78] it was shown that the relationships that exist between the percentage resin padded on the fabric on the one hand, and the percentage loss in abrasion resistance, tensile strength or the improvement in dry crease recovery on the other, or other various interrelationships which exist between the losses in abrasion resistance and tensile strength on the one hand and the improvement in DCR on the other, could be used to evaluate various resin finishing processes as well as the performance of various additives in the resin bath. The study has been extended to include different resins, catalysts, conditions of drying and curing, various resin finishing processes as well as fabric weaves. The data show that very clear-cut predictions are possible for a given fabric under a given set of resin finishing conditions.
