Dyeing of a polyester fibre heat set at different temperatures has been carried out with disperse dyes. It is observed that the dye uptake by the fibre is minimum at setting temperatures in the range 170-200oC and there is a gradual increase in the dye uptake at setting temperatures above 200oC irrespective of the nature of the dyeing medium. This behaviour can be explained satisfactorily with the help of the free volume theory of dyeing of synthetic fibres.en_US
