Three microalgal genera, namely, Chlamydomonas sp., Chlorococcum sp. and Chlorella sp., were selected to optimize the environmental variables and cultural conditions for enhanced lipid production. Microalgae exhibited differential response in terms of total lipids under varied conditions of temperature, light, pH, salinity and nitrogen. Chlorella sp. showed the highest lipid production in comparison to Chlamydomonas sp. and Chlorococcum sp. Fatty acid profile indicated that Chlorococcum sp. and Chlorella sp. were rich in array of fatty acids, which are suitable for biodiesel production. en_US
