Methane emission from paddy field, having sandy loam soil with high percolation rate, has been studied under continuously, flooded and intermittently flooded water regimes. No significant difference was observed in total seasonal CH4 flux among the intermittently flooded fields having three paddy varieties, namely IR-72 (0.97 g m-2), Pusa-169 (1.20 g m-2) and PB-1 (1.63 g m-2). Cultivar IR-72 has shown marginally higher flux in continuously flooded condition (1.54 g m-2) as compared to intermittently flooded condition. Plant growth parameters along with root and shoot biomass have not indicated much relationship with CH4 flux.en_US
