The lower atmosphere above the earth surface is absorptive, dispersive and inhomogeneous and therefore plays an important role in the radio communication in the frequency range UHF to mm waves. At frequencies less than 19 GHz, the effect of atmospheric precipitation (rain) is not significant: however, for greater frequencies, it affects severely. This paper presents specific attenuation model based on the rain drop size data collected by distrometer for various spot frequencies from 3.0 GHz to 100 GHz and discusses its impact for tropical Indian climate.en_US
