Radio frequency spectrum is a limited natural resource and has to be used judiciously, in a scientific manner, to derive maximum benefits. Overall performance of any radio communication system depends substantially on the extent of electromagnetic noise and interference. There is, thus, an essential need to control and regulate generation of unwanted electromagnetic noise as well as to enforce discipline, nationally and internationally, in the utilization of radio frequency spectrum so that various radio communication systems could work in an interference-free environment. Various aspects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) as related to optimum utilization of radio frequency spectrum are discussed.en_US
