Abstract: The ovarian maturation in Etroplus maculatus (Bloch), an estuarine teleost brought about well marked changes in the various energy reserves. Protein from the muscle and liver was used up most. Lipid concentrations got depleted considerably during advanced stages of maturity. Although glycogen seemed to have no part to play during reproduction, an increased concentration of lactic acid indicated that a considerable quantity of glycogen was definitely used up during maturation.
