| Abstract: | The co-operation among the national agencies from France, Italy and Spain resulted in the setting up of a trans-Mediterranean balloon flight facility, ODISSEA. In this facility, balloons are launched from Sicily and terminated in Spain. Fifty long duration flight shave been carried out so far with durations ranging from 20 to 24 hr. A brief description of this facility and the development of the balloon fabrics and the support equipment are presented. A recent successful campaign to Australia and the setting up of a new facility in the southern hemisphere are also described. |
