The Indonesian balloon programme has been developed since the year 1974 when several scientists of the Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) were trained at the Centre National d'Etude et Spatiale (CNES), France. Further improvement in the technique and upgrading of the programmes were carried out with the cooperation of the balloon facility in India and Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science (ISAS)in Japan. Meanwhile, the balloon activities for atmospheric research up to 30 km had been started since 1975. After the construction of the balloon launching station at Watukosek was completed, most of the activities are conducted from this station and a brief account of these activities is presented in this paper.en_US
