A simple approach to infer the growth and decay of irregularities in the ionosphere is outlined. This should be useful for various methods of investigating dynamics and nature of the irregularities such as ionospheric drift, spaced receiver scintillation and partial reflection technique. The basis of this approach is the quantitative comparison of temporal variation of observed drift speed and fading rate simultaneously.en_US
