Abstract: Sporadic-E events at Gauhati (Iat 26°10'N; long., 91°45'E) have been recorded and studied for the complete solar cycle period 1964-78. Sporadic-E events are found to be a regular feature with diurnal and seasonal variation, Other notable characteristics are (i) stratification of the reflecting Es-Iayers, (ii) spreading of Es, and (iii) diurnal changes in the different types of Es. Probable causes of formation of observed Es events were discussed in relation to wind shear, variations in the zonal wind system or the Sq- current. Special events such as enhancement of Es-ionization leading to fo Es > 22 MHz and spread of Es are found to be associated with meteor trails.
