A theoretical study of ionospheric vertical incidence absorption with frequency for reflections from a model E-region is presented. The total absorption for each frequency is computed using the Sen-Wyller formula [Sen, H. K. & Wyller, A. A., J. geophys. Res., 65 (1960), 209] for model D and E regions. The value of the index governing the relationship between the absorption and frequency in the power law is found to be 0'82. This value is in good agreement with values (in the range 0·7-1·2) obtained experimentally so far.en_US
