R have published propagation curves and methodology to estimate the expected median field strength over radio link and its variability for various climatic zones. With a view to assess the suitability of the CCIR data for the semi-arid zone of our country, short term propagation measurements in vhf range were conducted simultaneously on two links around Jodhpur. Distribution of hourly median values and diurnal variation of field strength for both the links are presented. Median field strength and its variability are compared with those given by CCIR. The experimental data scow greater variability around the median value than the values estimated from CCIR curves. Daily variations of the received field strength and the radio meteorological parameters (Ns and ΔN) have also been compared.en_US
