The radiation excited by a thin metallic disc of diameter comparable to the diameter of a dielectric rod carrying surface wave in hybrid mode has been studied by forming an end-fire array of the discs. The discrete discontinuity has been found to provide a beam of very narrow width in the axial direction.en_US
