Abstract: Field strength of hf signal m the 16 m band propagated through a transequatorial path from the South African Station at Johannesburg has been recorded in Calcutta (lat., 22°34'N, long., 88°24E).The records exhibit a gradual rise and fall with a pronounced maximum occurring around 1000 hrs IST. The results obtained are discussed in the light of current knowledge about the behaviour of the equatorial anomaly at the ionospheric reflection points involved.
