Amplitude probability distributions of vertically reflected radio pulses from different regions of the ionosphere are presented. The nature of the reflecting surface is found to vary even during short intervals of time. M-type distributions are observed when there is an apparent vertical motion and also during the passage of a travelling ionospheric disturbance. Possible interpretations are given for the observed double-peaked distributions.en_US
