Abstract: | Oscillatoria laetevirens was cultivated in laboratory controlled conditions using seawater as the basal medium with combination of nitrogen, phosphorus and micronutrients. The optimum culture conditions were pH 7.5-8, light intensity 1800 lux and salinity 25.30 x 10-3 for the maximum growth. Growth rate of the culture was related to the source and concentration of nitrogen supplied. The culture receiving nitrate exhibited higher growth rate than those of ammonia and nitrite. Studies on uptake kinetics revealed that the culture has high affinity for nitrate. |
