Distribution of Mn, Ti, CaCO3 and some alkali (Na, K, Li) and alkaline earth (Ca, Mg, Sr) elements in the deltaic sediments of the Cauvery River is studied CaCO3 is analysed in bulk sediments and elements are estimated in clay fractions. There is a general increase downstream in Mn, Ti, CaCO3, Na, K, Li and Mg contents, however, near the river mouth the Mn and Ti contents decrease slightly. Ca and Sr contents, on the other hand, decrease steadily downstream. Mn and Ti decrease seaward while CaCO3 increases. Distribution patterns of Mn, Ti, Ca, Mg and Sr in tidal channels, mangrove and swamps do not show much variations. In general, the geology of the country rocks influences the concentrations of Mn, Ti and Ca in the deltaic sediments while clay minerals control the distribution of Na, K, Li, Mg and Sr.en_US
