Benthic biomass in the Arabian Sea off Baikampady-Suratkal varied from 0.08 to 113.24 g.m-2 during January to December 1983. Polychaetes were the most consistent group followed by molluscs and echiurids. Organic carbon content in sediments varied from 0.75 to 2.44% and the sediment was mainly constituted by silt-clay fraction. A direct relationship was observed between the benthic biomass and demersal fish catches during most of the months.en_US
