Abstract: Survival of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and their antagonistic effect on each other in Kuwait brackish water have been studied. E. coli dies off rapidly when mixed with Ps. aeruginosa in brackish water and supports growth of latter during early stages. In mixed cultures in brackish water Ps. aeruginosa can inhibit E. coli. This may interfere with the actual E. coli count in polluted water. It suggested that Ps. aeruginosa need be taken into account in assessing the suitability of water for drinking purposes in Kuwait.
