Abstract: Measurements of longshore transport rates of different grainsizes of beach sands were made using a single fluorescent dye, Anthracene. The coarse grain fraction, found within the beach moved alongshore faster and the fine grains were the slowest. This relationship was independent of any seasonal vicissitudes. The results indicated that the finer grains are thrown high up the beach face where they move alongshore slowly than the bigger grains that remain near the breaker zone, where the longshore current is very strong.
