Direction and strength of longshore currents and rate of sediment transport along the Kunavaram beach (lat. 16°15'N, long. 82° E) have been worked out from wave refraction diagrams for waves approaching the shore from E. ESE, SSE and S, and period 5,6 and 8 sec using the IMD data obtained during 1971-78. During the NE monsoon the longshore currents have been found to be stronger than those during SW monsoon causing a net annual southerly drift of sediment along this coast.en_US
