Title: Larval development of the hermit crab Diogenes planimanus Henderson (Decapoda, anomura, diogenidae) in the Laboratory

Abstract: Larval development of D. planimanus comprising 3 zoeal and a glaucothoe in addition to the 1st crab instar is described. Total duration of the zoeal stages up to the 1st crab instar is about 21 days at temperature range 25 to 27 °C and salinity of about 33% Larvae are compared with those of the other species in the genus Diogenes wherein laboratory hatched larvae are known. Important generic features of 1st zoeae are summarised based on the hitherto described larvae.
