Thiobacilli from mud samples of Cochinbackwaters were isolated and cultured using Parker's thiosulphate medium. Oxidative products like sulphates and sulphuric acid were estimated. SuIphuric acid of 0·0033 to 0·0396N cone. was produced by the isolates. Corrosive action of Thiobacilli on specially prepared concrete surfaces was reported; net loss in weight ranging from 19·58 to 49·96% was recorded after 92 days of incubation at room temperature.en_US
