Of the total (97) fungal isolates screened 40.2% exhibits -asparaginase activity. Though the frequency of asparaginase producers is more among the fungi isolated from molluscs, estuarine water and rhizospheres, the sediment samples harbour more potent strains. Generally the fungi exhibit low asparaginase activity and their activity is mainly restricted to the members of the genus Aspergillus.en_US
