Abstract: High concentrations of zinc, copper and iron were observed in C. Madrasensis, collected from the Cochin backwaters over 1 yr (1975-76). High concentrations were observed during December to May. Low values were confined to June to November, when the fresh water discharge through the rivers was maximum. The high levels of these metals are considered to be due to industrial and domestic pollution.
