Abstract: Faecal pollution of Cherai during premonsoon, monsoon and postmonsoon seasons of 1976 is studied, and the counts of 'indicator bacteria' like E. Coli and Streptococcus faecalis occurring in the beach sand and beach waters are presented. Based on FC/FS ratio, the faecal pollution in Cherai beach is primarily of nonhuman source.
