Abstract: During the 21st cruise of RV Gaveshani, a dense swarm of C. acicula was observed in the Bay of Bengal (off Krishna estuary). The biomass value of the sample containing this species was 3.7 times higher than the highest record ever made earlier from the Bay of Bengal. The swarming of this pteropod species appears to be seasonal and often associated with high zooplankton production.
