The ligands, N-acylurea, N-acylthiourea and their Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes of the general formula ML2X2.nH2O [M =Ni(II) or Co(II), L= N-acylurea or N-acylthiourea, X =Cl and n =6] have been prepared and characterized by melting point, magnetic susceptibility, elemental analyses, infrared .and electronic spectral studies. Based on the magnetic and spectral data, a tetrahedral structure has been suggested for the metal complexes. The antimicrobial activity of the ligands and the complexes have been evaluated and compared to those of analogues from sulphathiazole.en_US
