Synthesis and characterization of some hetero(bi- and tri-)-metallic isopropoxides of magnesium(II)

Abstract

Isopropoxometallate derivatives of magnesium of the types, CIMg{Zr₂(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₉},CIMg{M(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)_n} (M=Al, n=4; M=Nb, n=6) Mg{Zr₂(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₉}₂.and Mg{M(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)_n}₂ (M=Al, n=4; M=Nb, n=6) have been synthesized by the reactions of MgCl₂ with an appropriate alkoxometallate in the required molar ratio. Reactions of CIMg{Zr₂(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₉} with potassium isopropoxide, potassium isopropoxoaluminate, or -niobate in benzene yield (Pr<i>ⁱ</i>O)Mg{Zr₂(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₉}, {Al(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₄}Mg{Zr₂(OPrⁱ)₉}, and {Nb(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₆}Mg{Zr₂(OPr<i>ⁱ</i>)₉} respectively. All these derivatives have been characterized by elemental analyses, spectroscopic (IR and NMR) studies and ebullioscopic molecular weight determinations.
