| Abstract: | The first ever mass spectrometric observation of CH3IH (n= 1-3) ions is reported following 70 eV electron collision with CH3I at a pressure above 10-4 torr. Quantum chermcal calculations show that CH3IH+ ions are stable and CH3IH 3IH ions are at least metastable in their respective ground states. These calculations suggest that protonation and hydrogenation reactions are the likely mechanisms for the formation of these ions. |
