Carboxylato-bound Cr(V) oxidation of aryl methyl sulphides (ArSMe) proceeds through a complex formation between the oxidant and substrate. The peculiar substituent effect observed is attributed to the reaction being carried out at a temperature close to the isokinetic temperature. Comparison of the kinetic results observed with-Cr(V) and Cr(VI) oxidations points out the operation of different mechanisms-single electron transfer in Cr(VI) oxidation and complex formation followed by ligand coupling in Cr(V) oxidation.en_US
