Kaolinite has been hydrothermally zeolitised in caustic to generate two different zeolites-sodalite hydrate and Na 4A. Conditions favouring the formation of the above two zeolites using kaolinite have been established. Under controlled conditions partially zeolitised (sodalite hydrate) kaolinite has been prepared and examined for thermal stability. It is observed that kaolinite in the presence of sodalite hydrate is unstable at temperatures above 400°C. This has been attributed to the reaction of kaolinite with entrained caustic in the sodalite hydrate structure.en_US
