| Abstract: | Ultrasonic velocities and densities of glycerol and sorbitol in aqueous alkali halide solutions of different concentrations at 308 K have been measured. The values of adiabatic compressibility (Ks.), apparent molar volume (φn), apparent molar compressibility (φKs) and hydration number (Hn) have been deduced from density and ultrasonic velocity data. Results show that: (i) there are short range and weak interactions in the present ternary systems, (ii) ions such as Na+, K+, Cl-, Br- are structure makers (SM) in both glycerol and sorbitol in the order Na+ >.K+ > CI- > Br- > I-, while I- is structure breaker (SB). |
