| Abstract: | Lanthanide picrate complexes with N,N'-dinaphthyl-N,N'-diphenyl-3, 6-dioxaoctanediamide (DDD), Ln(Pic)3 (DDD) (Ln=Ce, Nd, Eu, Tb, Er, Y) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, IR, 1H NMR and UV-VIS spectra. In all complexes, DDD shows quadridentate behaviour. Solvent extraction of light lanthanide picrates with DDD has been carried out in water-nitrobenzene system. The extraction equilibrium constants (Ke) and complexation constants (Kc) in the nitrobenzene phase are determined at 20°C. The Ke values for light lanthanide cations decrease in the order: La3 + >Nd3 + >Eu3 +. |
