Abstract: Some Nd(III) mixed ligand complexes using o-vanillinmonoxime as primary ligand and diacetylmonoxime, N-phenylanthranillic acid, 8-hydroxyquinoJine, 2,2'-bypyridyl and thiourea as secondary ligands have been synthesised and characterised by analytical, spectral, thermal and conductivity measurements. The values of Slater-Condon (Fk), Racah (Ek), Lande (ζ4f) and oscillator strength (P), Judd-Ofelt (Tl) intensity parameters have been calculated. Using these parameters, energies and intensities in each of the complexes in the region 350-900 nm have been computed. The agreement between computed and experimental values is good. The variations of all the parameters in the complexes from the corresponding Nd(III) free ion parameter have been discussed. Using F2 values, the nephelauxetic ratio β and bonding parameter b1/2 have been calculated which indicate some covalent character of these complexes. The intensity of hypersensitive transition is found to increase with increase in covalency.
