| Abstract: | The chelating behaviour of N1-(N-morpholinoacetyl)-N4-phenyl thiosemicarbazide (MPTSC) and 3,4-methylenedioxybenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (MDBT) towards oxovanadium(IV), Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(U), Cu(II), Cd(II), dioxouranium(VI), Th(IV) and Si(IV) has been investigated on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, electronic, infrared, IH NMR, ESR, thermal and Mossbauer studies. The above studies indicate that MPTSC acts as monobasic bidentate O, S donor towards oxovanadium (IV), Co(II), Ni(II) and Si(IV); monobasic bidentate N, S donor towards Cd(II) and monobasic tridentate O; N, S donor towards Cu(II) and Th(IV), while MDBT acts as neutral bidentate N,S donor towards oxovanadium(IV), Cr(III), Mn(Il), Fe(III), dioxouranium(VI) and Th(IV) The ligands and their metal complexes have been screened in vitro for antibacterial and antifungal activities. The results indicate that in some complexes biocidal activity of ligand increases on complexation. |
