| Abstract: | Sulphonation of quinizarin at 2-position alters many of its characteristics. The hydroxyl group in the 1-position in sodium quinizarin 2-sulphonate in aqueous solution could be hydrogen-bonded either with the carbonyl group at C-9 or with the sulphonate group at C-2. The latter alternative has been confirmed using quinizarin and sodium quinizarin 6-sulphonate as reference compounds, and The techniques of ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and steady state and time-resloved fluorescence spectroscopy. |
